Heading into Friday, the Tar Heels were going to see commitments from five targets in five days. While that will be the case, it isn’t going to be the five that we thought it was going to be entering the weekend.
On Saturday, 2024 3✮ WR Javarius Green announced on Twitter that he will be pushing his decision back. The Shelby, NC product was expected to reveal his commitment on Tuesday afternoon but will now push it back to August 18th.
The Tar Heels have been the long time leader for him, but this opens the door for the two other teams that are currently involved in his recruitment, Michigan State and Alabama. The Spartans hosted him for an official visit back on June 9th in his only other official visit outside of the one to Chapel Hill. As for Alabama, they have yet to host him for an official visit, but they have him on campus back on the first weekend of June.
The belief is that this move is more about the date being special as opposed to a reset of his recruitment, but it is interesting that it comes on the same night that Jordan Shipp started receiving crystal balls in favor of the Tar Heels. At the least, this opens the door for both the Spartans and Crimson Tide to make a push over the next month. The question is will the Tar Heels still be pushing to land him?
