Heel Tough Blog: 4✭ TE Korey Duff Jr. To Decide June 29th, Down to Two

Prolific Sports Lab

The Tar Heels already have two tight ends committed to their 2024 class, but they might not be done yet. The team is still making a push for 4✭ TE Korey Duff Jr., who announced on Sunday that his recruitment is nearing an end.

In a sit down with On3 Sports’ Chad Simmons, the Melville, NY native revealed that he is down to two schools and has a commitment date. Duff Jr., who was scheduled to officially visit Miami next weekend, will announce his commitment on June 29th and will not be taking that trip to Coral Gables. Instead, he will take the weekend to decide between the Tar Heels, who he officially visited last weekend, and Rutgers.

The Tar Heels being one of the finalists for him shows that the commitment of the other two tight ends won’t really be a factor here. He told Simmons that he has a strong relationship with both head coach Mack Brown and tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens and that’s what gives the Tar Heels a legitimate shot to pull this off.

Rutgers proximity to him and lack of another commitment in this class gives them a good shot to land this commitment, though. He told Simmons that he really likes how the Scarlet Knights are planning to use him and the fact that they were in on him early also weighs in their favor.

As of right now, Rutgers appears to hold the slight lead based on how early they entered the race for him. The Tar Heels have made up a ton of ground on them since they entered the hunt back in March and they’ll need to make one last push. If they can convince Duff Jr. that they can use him the same way that the Scarlet Knights want to, as a big wide receiver, then they might just be able to pull it off.
