The Tar Heels have been in need of more help along the offensive line and on Friday morning the team made another down there.

As first reported by Andrew Jones of TarHeel247, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from Arkansas transfer OL Shaq McRoy, who will reunite with new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. He should have three years of eligibility remaining.

McRoy, who measures in at 6’8, 344 lbs., spent this past season with Arkansas after originally signing out of high school in 2024 with Oregon. He played in six games for the Razorbacks, including a start in the game against Mississippi State, and totaled 58 snaps over the course of the season, all but one of which came at right tackle. Out of high school, McRoy was rated as a 4✮ prospect by Rivals and 247Sports.

This is another high risk-high reward type pick up for the Tar Heels, especially if they are going to start him, but it was something that was much needed. It would have been nice to add someone with a little more experience to the mix, but the team has had some decent success with bringing in guys that have played sparingly in the SEC and turning them into serviceable enough players. Let’s hope the staff can do the same here with McRoy and add another transfer to this room before it all said and done.
