Heel Tough Blog: Availability Report- Week 3 (vs. Clemson)
With the Tar Heels dipping into league play this weekend, the team had to submit an injury report to conference on Wednesday.
For the Tar Heels, ten players are listed with official designations for this game. Seven players will be inactive in the game, including the two players, Keeyun Chapman and C.J. Sadler, who were charged during a traffic stop on Tuesday. Tight end Jordan Washington, who sustained an injury earlier this offseason, will be out for a third straight game to begin the year. Defensive linemen Jimmy-Phrisco Alo-Suliafu, Vodney Cleveland and Viliami Moala and wide receiver Carnell Warren will also be out.
The most important name to monitor the rest of the week will be star edge rusher Melkart Abou Jaoude, who is listed as questionable for the game on Saturday. Abou Jaoude suffered a hand injury early in the season-opening win over TCU, but returned shortly after going to the locker room to finish with four total tackles, a sack, two total quarterback pressures and a forced fumble. Last week, it was reported by multiple outlets that Abou Jaoude was in a cast and that was why he sat out the game against East Tennessee State. He’s joined by true freshman Jordan Avinger as those who are questionable.
The last player with an injury designation is offensive lineman Jonah Rodriguez, who has yet to play in a game this season.
As for Clemson, quarterback Christopher Vizzina, who started the first two games this season, is listed as probable after leaving the game this past Saturday against Georgia Southern with an elbow injury. Head coach Dabo Swinney announced on Monday that true freshman Tait Reynolds will get the start on Saturday against the Tar Heels after what he showed in the 22-7 win over Georgia Southern.
Eleven players are listed as out for Clemson. Defensive tackles Kourtney Kelly and Markus Strong, both significant portal additions at the position, are among those out, as is veteran receiver Cole Turner, who has gotten buried on the depth chart.
