After being tied to the New York Giants job earlier in the week, Tar Heel head coach Bill Belichick has released a statement about the vacant job.

“I have great respect and genuinely care for the New York Giants organization and both the Mara and Tisch families. The New York Giants played an important role in my life and in my coaching journey. It was a privilege for me to work for the Mara family and be a member of Coach Parcells' staff for over a decade. However, despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies.”
“Since arriving in Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC Football program has not waivered. We have tremendous support from the university, our alumni, and the entire Carolina community. My focus remains solely on continuing to improve this team, develop our players, and build a program that makes Tar Heel fans proud.”
“We're on to Wake Forest.”

This statement comes after his name was thrown around by fans and media following the Giants firing of Brian Daboll on Monday due to his previous ties to the organization.

While this is the type of strong statement that you were wanting to see from Belichick if you are a Tar Heel fan, actions will always speak louder than words. This will matter a lot more if he gets officially offered the job by the Giants, something that seems unlikely at this point. This statement is a solid first step, though, towards him showing that he is committed to this job and will not be heading back to the NFL if he gets offered a job.
