Heel Tough Blog: Cade Tyson Sets UNC Visit Date

Belmont Athletics

It’s been a busy day for the North Carolina program in terms of the transfer portal, as Carolina confirmed they’ll host the best player in the portal, in Oumar Ballo, and made contact with another transfer, in the form of Aaron Bradshaw from Kentucky.

The news doesn’t stop there though for Hubert Davis’s program, as it was made known that Cade Tyson, the first player in the portal Carolina made contact with, will be in Chapel Hill next weekend. Tyson is a sharpshooter from Belmont and was 2nd in the country in three-point shooting in 2023-24, building upon his all-conference honors from his freshman season. Before Tyson makes his way to Carolina, he will first visit Rick Barnes, and Tennessee, as the Volunteers will seek to find an adequate replacement for Dalton Knecht.

According to 247Sports, Tyson is the 23rd best player in the transfer portal and has been contacted by virtually every major program in the sport. He’s the younger brother of former Clemson Tiger, Hunter Tyson, and is a North Carolina native, having played his high school basketball in Charlotte. After being named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, he was named to the Missouri Valley Second Team this year, after averaging over 16 points per game, while shooting over 46% from three.

Carolina expressed interest in Tyson even before Set Trimble entered the transfer portal, a clear sign that the UNC isn’t resting on its laurels from the 2023-24 season, showing a desire to improve the roster to replicate the same success from the regular season, but putting the program in a better position for a deeper run next March.

Make sure to stay tuned to the Heel Tough Blog for the latest on the Carolina Basketball front, as another off-season is well underway in Chapel Hill.
