The Tar Heels are in search of help on the perimeter in the transfer portal and it appears that while Cade Tyson might be the favorite to land with the team, he may not be the only target.
In a day of Tar Heel scoops, CBS Sports college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein reported earlier this afternoon that he had spoken with Dayton guard Koby Brea and that he named UNC as one of the destinations that he is considering. He also listed Kansas, Duke, UConn and Kentucky as the schools, making it a blue blood rich group that is apparently competing for his commitment.
Brea entered the transfer portal for his final season of eligibility following a strong year where he averaged 15.3 points per game and was the nation’s best three-point shooter, hitting 49.8% of his shots from behind the arc. While this was a major leap from the year before when he shot 37.0%, his career percentage is still one of the best of anyone in college basketball at 43.4% and he could be a good fit for what the Tar Heels are needing in the place of the departed Cormac Ryan.
While he may fit what the Tar Heels are searching for, there hasn’t been any confirmation that the Tar Heels are talking to him. With how good of a shooter he is, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was, but the program has not confirmed anything to the media and it appears that they are locked in on Cade Tyson. It feels like this is more a list that Brea is hoping he will get an opportunity to go to, not a top five of schools that have offered him.
