Heel Tough Blog: Demon June Lands on Doak Walker Watch List

As the season closes in, certain college football awards continue to roll out their preseason watch lists and on Tuesday, it was the Doak Walker Award committee who released theirs.

Sophomore running back Demon June was the lone Tar Heel to land on the list, following a productive first season at UNC.

Last year, as a true freshman, June led the Tar Heel in rushing, carrying the ball 84 times for 464 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 17 passes for 159 yards and touchdown, the bulk of which came on his touchdown grab against Syracuse.

June is listed as the No. 2 running back on most of the projected depth charts for this season behind junior Benjamin Hall, but he should still get a decent amount of carries even if he’s not the starter. With another offseason under his belt, there is a chance that he has gotten more explosive and if he can prove that, he could better the production in his second year with the program despite sharing reps with Hall.
