The NFL Combine is underway from Indianapolis, as 321 prospects have begun their descent on the city for an important step on their journey to the NFL. Amongst those 321 are four Tar Heel prospects, including potential top five pick Drake Maye, who revealed that he will not throw when the quarterbacks take the field on Saturday in Indianapolis.

As first reported by ESPN’s Josina Anderson and later confirmed by Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schulz, the former Tar Heel quarterback will only go through the “physicals and interviews” this week. He joins fellow top 5 pick hopefuls Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels as those who will not throw this weekend, while guys like J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. will try to close the gap on those three.

Maye already has his first interview set this week in the form of the New England Patriots. The team’s GM, Eliot Wolf, confirmed that meeting earlier today along with Williams and Daniels. Maye has also been strongly tied to the Commanders and Giants and one would expect that those two teams, as well as the Bears, who hold the first overall pick, to sit down with him at some point this week. Teams like the Raiders, Broncos and Vikings could also be willing to sit down with him this week if they are willing to potentially trade up.

With Maye not throwing, he will now wait until his pro day to throw and show off what he has been working on since the regular season finale against NC State. He spent time earlier this month working with former New York Giants Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning and recently spent some time training with former San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. On top of those opportunities, Maye has been spending time in Mobile, Alabama alongside some of his fellow draft hopefuls.
