It may have flown under the radar a bit, but the Tar Heels have lost another player to the transfer portal along the defensive line.

As first reported by Chris Hummer of 247Sports, true freshman defensive tackle Kamarion Thomas will enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2nd. He will have four years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.

Thomas, the former 3✮ recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, transfers after spending just one season in Chapel Hill. He was a guy who didn’t see a single snap this season and rarely got a helmet on gamedays. Prior to his year at the college level, he finished his senior season at Erasmus Hall High School in Queens, NY where he had more than 40 total tackles and at least 20 tackles for loss.

The Tar Heels still remain in really good shape in the defensive tackle room despite the departure. With all four major contributors from this season at the position returning and four incoming enrollees from the 2026 class, the talent and depth in this room still remains strong.
