This offseason has been a wild one for the Tar Heels and things appeared like they may have been reaching a boiling point soon if this morning’s reports are correct.
Pablo Torre, host of the ‘Pablo Torre Finds Out’ podcast, said early on Friday morning that sources have told him that Jordon Hudson, the girlfriend of current Tar Heel football head coach Bill Belichick, had been banned for the team’s football facilities. "What I have been told is that Jordon essentially has been functioning as Bill Belichick's ... de facto agent,” said Torre per a member of the Belichick family. “There is deep worry for how detrimental Jordon can be for not just North Carolina but Bill’s legacy, reputation — everything he has built and worked for over decades.” This quote eventually led to Torre saying his sources, which involve eleven people familiar with the situation, are confirming that “you won’t be seeing Jordon around” and that she has been banned from the football facilities.
Following those reports, Tar Heel Illustrated’s Andrew Jones did some digging and revealed that Torre’s reports on Hudson’s ban are not true. His source also said that the Hudson is also no longer being included on every email and that reported arrangement was just for the first handful of weeks amidst the coaching transition.
Jones’ report was quickly followed by a statement from UNC Athletics backing up his’ reporting on the alleged ban and confirming that she is still allowed in the football facilities. "While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities. Jordon will continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick's personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the
University."
Shortly after this was released, Torre responded by standing behind his sources. “UNC can now choose to describe or change its position on Jordon Hudson’s involvement however it wishes, following the publication of our episode,” Torre posted on Twitter. “We requested comment and filed dozens of FOIA requests that were not satisfied. And we stand by the specific reporting in our episode, which came from the highest levels of the football program.”
This report is just the latest around the relationship between and it’s hard to believe that this isn’t having some sort of effect on football. Belichick has always been someone who has lived by the montra ‘keep the main thing the main thing’ and that simply isn’t happening right now. This leads to some legitimate concerns about the current mindset of the greatest coach in the history of the game and it makes sense that some in Chapel Hill would want the distraction that she has become to be out of the way. Belichick needs to prove that he is still motivated and focused on putting together a winner in Chapel Hill and unfortunately he won’t be able to do that until September. The one thing that we do know for sure, the pressure to win builds every time something else comes out because this negative PR certainly isn’t worth dealing with if the victories aren’t there.
