The spring portal is officially open and the entries are flowing in for the Tar Heels.

As first reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels have lost both Cade and Crews Law to the transfer portal. Cade will have two years of eligibility remaining while Crews will have four years left.

Cade played in 24 games over the last two seasons with the Tar Heels, playing the majority of his snaps on special teams. In 2023, he finished with one total tackles while playing six defensive snaps and 103 special teams snaps in 11 games. This year, his role grew a little more as he played 10 snaps on defense and 173 snaps on special teams across 13 games. He closed the season with two tackles, including one that went for a loss.

As for Crews, he played just five snaps across three games this season on special teams. Because of that, he is able to take a redshirt to save that year of eligibility.

While this might be a blow to the special teams units, especially Cade’s, the linebacker room is still in good shape in terms of depth thanks to the addition of Mikai Gbayor earlier today and the three linebackers that the team added late in the 2025 class.
