After a couple of days full of bad news along the defensive line, the Tar Heels have just landed a big commitment at edge rusher.

As announced by the Tar Heel football program on Sunday afternoon, the team has picked up a commitment and signed Richmond transfer edge rusher Donovan Hoillette. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Holiette, who measures in at 6’4, 245 lbs., is coming off of a five year stint with Richmond where he played in 40 games and started all twelve games for the team this season. This season, which was easily the most productive of his career, he finished with 48 total tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks, 44 quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal on the way to earning first team All-Patriot League honors. In his career, Hoilette has compiled 103 total tackles, 20.0 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, 82 total quarterback pressures, an interception, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal.

This is a nice addition for the Tar Heels, giving them someone who has some nice production at the edge rusher position to go opposite of Melkart Abou-Jaoude. Similar to Abou-Jaoude last year, he will have to make the jump from the FCS to the Power 4 level, but this feels like a risk worth taking. Expect Hoilette to be a big part of the edge rusher rotation this season.
