For a second time today, the Tar Heels have reached into the transfer portal and this time it is for a player at the biggest position of need remaining on the team.

As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Florida State transfer linebacker Timir Hickman-Collins is signing with the Tar Heels over UNLV after visiting Chapel Hill last week. Hickman-Collins, who entered the transfer portal back late last week, has four years of eligibility remaining at the college level.

Hickman-Collins, a former 3✮ prospect in the 2024 class, spent just one season in Tallahassee and failed to play in a single game. Back in high school, he earned all-region honors as a junior and sophomore while playing at Indian Land High School in Fort Mill, SC.

This is a pick up that the team needs in the room for depth purposes, but it doesn’t pack the punch that they are needing to help headline the room with Khmori House and Mikai Gbayor. Let’s hope that this wasn’t the consolation prize in the race for Boise State transfer linebacker Andrew Simpson, who is the type of headliner that this defense needs at the position.
