The Tar Heels continue to land players from the portal and the first commitment on Tuesday comes from an offensive lineman with Power 4 starting ability.

As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports/Rivals, the Tar Heels have picked up a commitment from Baylor transfer OL Sean Thompkins following a visit over the weekend to Chapel Hill. The former 4✮ prospect in the 2023 class has two years of eligibility remaining.

Thompkins, 6’5, 300 lbs., spent the last three seasons in Waco, playing in 11 games and starting the final five games of the season for the Bears. In 460 snaps played, most of them at left tackle, he graded out with a 48.1 run block grade, a 50.3 pass block grade and a 47.9 overall grade. In 270 pass block reps, he allowed four sacks and 16 total quarterback pressures.

With how desperate the Tar Heels are for offensive line help, this is a welcome addition but expectations need to be capped. He really struggled in the reps that he saw this past year, but the hope is that a change of scenery will do him well and he’ll be able to live up to that 4✮ billing that he had at the high school level.
