For the second time this offseason, the Tar Heels have dipped into the transfer portal to add a Penn State edge rusher.

As first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Penn State edge rusher Joseph Mupoyi has committed to the Tar Heels. He has three years of eligibility remaining at the college level.

Mupoyi, a 4✮ prospect back in the 2023 recruiting class, spent the last two seasons with the Nittany Lions, playing in just two games over the last two seasons. So far in his career he has played four snaps and corralled one total tackle. Back in 2022, Muypoi had 54 total tackles, 26.0 tackles for loss and 14.0 sacks as a senior, showcasing plenty of upside as an edge rusher.

This is a nice bargain addition for the Tar Heels at the position and gives them a promising young edge rusher that could contribute this season. This should still be a position that the team is looking to add a headliner at, but it feels like this might be it, meaning the team needs Mupoyi and his teammate Smith Vilbert to step up this year.
