For the second time in the last week, the Tar Heels have made an addition to the tight end room via the transfer portal.
As he announced via social media on Monday afternoon, Oklahoma State transfer tight end Jordan Owens has committed to the Tar Heels following a visit to campus last week. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Owens, who transferred to Oklahoma State back in December before entering the portal back on April 23rd, spent the last three years of his career at Central Arkansas, where he saw action in 32 games and caught 29 passes for 248 yards and seven touchdowns. This past season, as a junior, he caught 19 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, the first two of which were career highs.
This is a shot in the dark for the Tar Heels as they search for pass-catching help at the tight end position after Ryan Ward’s departure. Him and Shamar Easter will be battling Jake Johnson and Connor Cox for reps throughout the fall and, hopefully, someone reliable can emerge for the season opener.
