The Tar Heels are still in pursuit of legitimate help in the transfer portal at both edge rusher and off-ball linebacker and a new name has emerged that could give them the quality starter at one of those spots.

According to a report from On3 Sports transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos, the Tar Heels have been added to Rutgers transfer linebacker Mohamed Toure's visit schedule. Since entering the transfer portal on April 25th, Toure has already visited Indiana, Miami, and Penn State. He will have one year of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.

Toure, a former 3✮ prospect way back in the 2019 class, is coming off of his second ACL tear, which cost him all of 2024 after he missed 2022 with the same injury. Back in 2023, Toure played 671 snaps, taking 439 snaps as an off-ball linebacker and 149 snaps at edge rusher. He finished the season with 93 total tackles, a team-high 10.0 tackles for loss and a team-high 4.5 sacks. Prior to that, he spent most of his time at edge rusher and had some solid production. As a sophomore in 2021, all but five of his 547 snaps came at edge rusher and he finished the season with 51 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss and a team-high 4.5 sacks.

Toure would be an excellent piece to add to their 2025 roster because of his versatility, but they are competing with some tough competition. This is someone that the staff should be going all in on, especially if they can’t get Boise State transfer linebacker Andrew Simpson, someone who seems less likely to be on the roster with each passing day.
