The portal entries just keep rolling in and the most recent comes in the defensive backfield where the team loses another depth piece.

As first announced by Chris Hummer of 247Sports, Tar Heel cornerback Khalil Conley will enter his name into the transfer portal when it officially opens on January 2nd. The redshirt freshman, who spent two seasons in Chapel Hill, will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Conley, a former 3✮ recruit, will enter the portal after playing in eleven games this season, splitting his time between defense and special teams. He played 51 defensive snaps and 56 special teams snaps, racking up two total tackles, both on defensive snaps. In 20 coverage snaps, he allowed four of his five targets to be caught for 55 yards and a 112.5 quarterback rating against.

His departure is a small blow to the experience at the cornerback position, but the team should not have to worry about that because of the upgrades that they are receiving in talent at the position from the high school ranks. Expect guys like Kenton Dopson, David Davis and Julian Peterson amongst others to come in and immediately battle to play significant reps and at least provide depth.
