The Tar Heels needed a commitment along the defensive line in this 2027 class and on Sunday, they were able to land one in the form of their first top 500 prospect in this cycle.

As first reported by Inside Carolina on Sunday afternoon, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from 2027 3✮ DL Kaiden Robinson-Vickers following his visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend. He chooses the Tar Heels over offers from NC State and UCF, the other two schools that he officially visited this summer.

Robinson-Vickers, the No. 401 overall prospect and No. 43 defensive lineman in the 2027 class according to Rivals Industry Rankings, is preparing for his senior season at Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, FL. In 2025 at Dunnellon High School in Dunnellon, FL, Robinson-Vickers finished with 55 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. The year prior, as a sophomore, he collected 60 total tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and one forced fumble.

Robinson-Vickers, who measures in at 6’3, 265 lbs., is the type of addition that the Tar Heels needed along the defensive line. With his size, he will likely slot into one of the edge rusher spots for the Tar Heels, a spot where the team is in need of bodies in this cycle. When it comes to his game, there are plenty of reasons that he is able to live in the opposing backfields the past two seasons. He starts out with a nice release off the line of scrimmage, which gives him an immediate advantage in his matchups against opposing offensive linemen. He does a great job of consistently shedding blocks with technical moves, which allows him to make plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. He combines those technical moves with a promising level of physicality to make him one of the more complete defensive linemen that the Tar Heels could have landed in this 2027 class. The Tar Heels needed a talented commitment along the defensive line, especially at the edge rusher position, and Robinson-Vickers is that, even if he has his fourth star taken away from him.

With his commitment, the Tar Heels are now up to twelve commitments in the 2027 recruiting class. The class also jumps back into the top 50 overall, landing at 49th, and sits at 13th in the ACC.
