The Tar Heels just concluded their most significant official visit weekend of the year and have just landed their first commitment from it.

As he announced via social media on Sunday afternoon, 2026 3✮ IOL Mason Wilhelm has announced his commitment to North Carolina over West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Maryland and others. The commitment comes just a few hours after the conclusion of Wilhelm’s lone official visit which was to Chapel Hill.

Wilhelm is getting prepared for his senior season at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH. Following his junior season, he was named one of ScoutingOhio.com’s best available prospects.

Wilheim, who is currently unranked in the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, is a versatile offensive lineman that will bring a lot of potential with him. At 6’4, 290 lbs., he has plenty of size and length, especially if he is going to stick at offensive tackle. His lateral movement is very strong and allows him to stay in front of just about any edge rusher. His footwork is very promising for a high schooler, as is his hand placement. He shows nice athleticism out in space and does a good job of climbing to the second level when he needs to. He isn’t the most violent player at the point of attack, which is something he can work on when he gets to campus, but is still able to toss a few guys down to the ground for pancake blocks. There will be a learning curve for him, but there is still promise for what he could eventually become once they figure out where they are going to play him.

With his commitment, the Tar Heels are back up to 14 commits in the class and now have three commitments along the offensive line. The Tar Heels 2026 class currently sits 20th in the overall 247Sports Composite Team Rankings and 7th in the ACC.
