The Tar Heels were in need of at least one more commitment along the offensive line and they have just picked up another commitment.
As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports/Rivals, the Tar Heels have picked up a commitment from Clemson transfer IOL Rowan Byrne. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Byrne, who measures in at 6’5, 295 lbs., transferred from Clemson after spending just one season with the program. This season, he saw action in just one game, taking two snaps in the game against Furman at right guard.
Back at the high school level, Byrne was a 3✮ prospect and ranked as the No. 53 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class out of Iona Prep School in New Rochelle, NY.
This is more of an upside pick than anything, but the Tar Heels will be hoping that Byrne can at least provide competition for the starting job at one of the guard spots. This isn’t exactly what we were hoping the team would do along the offensive line, as it feels like they have gone with a lot of bargain options. Let’s hope that this staff did a better job of evaluating these guys than they did a year ago.
