The Tar Heels continue to roll in portal commitments and the most recent one comes in the form of a slot receiver with Power 4 experience.

As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports/Rivals, the Tar Heels picked up a commitment from Wisconsin transfer slot receiver Trech Kekahuna, who entered the transfer portal back in early December. He should have two years of eligibility remaining at the college level.

Kekahuna, 5’10, 180 lbs., heads to Chapel Hill after three seasons in Madison with the Badgers. This season, as a redshirt sophomore, Kekahuna caught a career-high 26 passes, but was only able to turn it into 211 yards and failed to reach the endzone once this year. He was able to make an effect in the run game, though, carrying the ball 14 times for 129 yards and a touchdown. The year prior, as a redshirt freshman, he was a little more productive, catching 25 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns. He finished his Wisconsin with 70 total touches for 754 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns.

This is a very solid addition to the Tar Heels wide receiver room and one that they hope will bring more explosiveness to the roster. He isn’t the sure-fire thing that some of the other guys in the portal are, but he is someone that has a nice upside to him and has some built in chemistry with Billy Edwards Jr. from their time together at Wisconsin. Let’s hope the fit in Bobby Petrino’s offense will be a little better than his fit in the Wisconsin offenses from the past few years and that he can fully breakout this year.
