Today is the opening of the transfer portal window in college football and while most of the names that are being entered today are players who had previously stated their intentions to transfer, there is one new name that has surfaced this afternoon.
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Justin Kanyuk announced via social media that he will be entering his name into the portal. He will have three years of eligibility remaining, but will apply for a medical redshirt after being hurt as a true freshman.
Kanyuk never took a snap on the field in Chapel Hill and rarely dressed out for the team. Because of that, this move shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
With him gone, this opens another scholarship that could go a long way towards helping this team rebuild the offensive line that is set to lose a lot this offseason. The team is also bringing in some true freshmen that can help keep the depth strong if they can add some starters in the portal.
