After losing a commitment in the 2026 class last week, the Tar Heels had two more prospects announce their decommitments on Wednesday.

As they announced via social media, 2026 3✮ TE Cooper McCutchan and 3✮ WR Kei’Maurii Miles have decommitted from UNC and reopened their recruitments.

McCutchan, the No. 1186 overall prospect and No. 64 tight end in the 2026 class according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, had been committed to UNC since May 7th. Prior to his commitment, he held offers from Cincinnati, Duke and Indiana amongst others.

Miles, the No. 1276 overall prospect and No. 189 wide receiver in the 2026 class according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, had been committed to UNC since April 7th. Back in the summer, he did take an official visit to Memphis following his trip to Chapel Hill. He also holds offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M and USC.

These decommitments, like the one last week from Marcellous Ryan, shouldn’t come as much of a shock considering the team has been recruiting over these guys. In the case of Miles, the commitment of fellow 3✮ Nyqir Helton, a guy who thrives as a big play receiver in the deep passing game, likely prompted him to look elsewhere because of how similar his skillset is to Helton’s. For McCutchan, it probably revolves around the fact that the team has five different tight end targets that they have become interested in and are pushing hard for. In all likelihood, with the number of guys that the team is talking to, this likely won’t be the end of the defections from this class, either.
