Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Lose Wide Receiver to the Transfer Portal

Hudl

Following the second day of spring practice for the Tar Heels, news was released that the team was losing a wide receiver to the transfer portal.

As first reported by Inside Carolina earlier this evening, redshirt freshman wide out Ray Rose has reportedly entered the transfer portal. The former 4✮ prospect confirmed the news on Thursday night via social media, thanking the coaches and the fans in the post.

As a true freshman this past season, Rose appeared in just one game, the Western Carolina game in his first season on campus. He entered Chapel Hill this past fall following a strong prep career where he starred on both sides of the football at South Point High School in Belmont, NC.

The good news is that the Tar Heels are in great shape at the wide receiver position.

Even with the departures of major producers Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome from a year ago, the unit is led by a group of experienced players with names like Beau Corrales, Khafre Brown, Emery Simmons and Josh Downs leading the way. The depth at the position is still in great shape, as well, with guys like Antonie Green, Justin Olson and Stephen Gosnell as the returning players that will battle for reps and newcomers in Gavin Blackwell, J.J. Jones and Kobe Paysour set to do the same.

Ultimately, this is a transfer move that doesn’t deal a major blow to this Tar Heel team, something that is a testament to just how much depth this staff has already been able to build in their two-plus years in Chapel Hill.
