The Tar Heels may be in the midst of spring practice but they may not be done with adding to the offensive line for this upcoming season.
As first reported by Chris Hummer of 247Sports and CBS Sports, the Tar Heels are expected to host Mercer transfer interior offensive line transfer Jamari Freeman sometime next week for a visit. This will follow the visit that he took Mississippi State today and the one that he will take to Auburn this weekend. Next week could also be the week that he visits Arkansas, another school that he is still considering.
Freeman, who measures in at 6’4, 300 lbs., entered the transfer portal back in December after spending 2025 with Mercer following a transfer from Tennessee State where he spent the first two seasons of his career. This past year in 864 snaps across 13 games, Freeman graded out with a 72.2 run block grade, a 79.7 pass block grade and a 73.4 overall grade while allowing just one sack and nine total quarterback pressures.
This would be a welcome addition to an offensive line room that can use all of the bodies it can get right now, especially ones that can compete to play significant snaps this season. It can’t hurt to bring in someone with his experience at this point and let him push the guys who will emerge at both left and right guard when we get to the fall. The Tar Heels still have work to do, though, if they are going to him on campus.
