The Tar Heels might be through spring ball, but they are continuing to keep their eyes open for help along the offensive line.

After missing on Mercer offensive line transfer Jamari Freeman last month, the Tar Heels are expressing interest in another FCS transfer along the offensive line.

According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels are one of the teams that has expressed interest in Stetson transfer offensive lineman Vincent Chen. Chen, who measures in 6’8, 328 lbs., is also receiving interest from Auburn, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Virginia. Auburn and Vanderbilt already have visits scheduled with him, so the Tar Heels will need to work quickly if they want to land his services.

Chen entered the transfer portal back on April 29th after spending the last two seasons at Stetson where he started 15 games. This past season, as a sophomore, Chen graded out with a 52.3 run block grade, a 75.3 pass protection grade and a 58.6 overall grade while allowing three sacks and eleven total pressures in 687 snaps, 568 of which came at left tackle.

There is going to be a risk here with him needing to go from the FCS level to the Power 4 level, but this feels like a player worth investing in because of the questions the team has at the tackle spots. The first step to landing him will be getting him on campus, so the staff needs to be pushing to make that happen as soon as possible.
