On Tuesday morning, the Tar Heels re-signed the leader of their defense and now the team has done the same with the leader of the offense.

As announced by the football program on Tuesday, the team has re-signed with the team for the 2026 season. The full details of the deal are not currently being reported to the public.

Shipp, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is coming off of a sophomore season where he led the Tar Heels in every major receiving category. He caught 60 of his 80 targets for 671 yards and six touchdowns over the course of the team’s 12 games on the way to All-ACC honorable mention. So far in his career, Shipp has caught 69 passes for 785 yards and six touchdowns in 24 games.

This might be the biggest retention from the staff this offseason. Shipp’s return is huge for whoever the starting quarterback is this season and gives the team a receiver that they can count on down in and down out. With the right quarterback play, he has a chance to be one of college football’s breakout stars in 2026.
