With the portal opening on Friday, transfer visits have officially gotten underway and the Tar Heels are already hosting some of their early targets in the portal. Here is a look at the four transfer portal targets that the staff is in the middle of hosting currently.
DL Tarvorise Brown- Florida

Brown, 6’7, 300 lbs., is the most inexperienced guy on this list but provides plenty of upside. The former JUCO transfer played in six games in his two seasons with the program, compiling five total tackles in just 53 snaps. This would clearly be a depth piece for the Tar Heels at position that returns all four major contributors from a year ago.
RB Evan Dickens- Liberty

Dickens, 5’11, 195 lbs., is one of the more underrated running backs in the transfer portal. After playing sparingly in his two seasons at Georgia Tech, the former 3✮ prospect in the 2023 class put off IMG Academy, transferred to Liberty where he found plenty of success. This season with the Flames, he ran for 1,339 yards and 16 touchdowns on his way to earning second team All-Conference USA honors. The Tar Heels are looking for a nice change of pace to Demon June and Benjamin Hall’s physical running styles and this might be it.
LB Oumar Diomande- Connecticut

Diomande, 6’1, 230 lbs., would be a really solid addition for the team after a productive junior season for Connecticut. After playing just 12 defensive snaps in the previous two seasons with the program, he burst onto the scene this season, totaling 116 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and 21 quarterback pressures in 846 snaps across 12 games. The Tar Heels are in desperate need of starting caliber help at the linebacker position and this would be a promising way to start.
QB Billy Edwards Jr.- Wisconsin

Edwards, 6’3, 215 lbs., is the Tar Heels first true target at the position that most people feel is the biggest need for the team this offseason if they are going to compete this coming season. He only played in two games this past season for Wisconsin due to a Grade 3 PCL strain, but had some decent success in 2024 as a starter for Maryland when he threw for for 2,881 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 273 of 420 passing and running for 148 yards and five touchdowns on 81 carries. He might not be the caliber of some of the top quarterbacks in the portal, but he would at least be competition for Gio Lopez, even if that’s not what we were ultimately hoping for.
