For the past four days, the Tar Heels’ quarterback commit in the 2026 class, 3✮ Travis Burgess, has been showing off for scouts at the Elite11 Finals in hopes of proving that he is one of the nation’s top 11 quarterbacks in this recruiting cycle. Here is a recap of how he did.
Opening day was all over the board for him in terms of where he ranked, but by all accounts, he did enough to get himself on the radar. Andrew Ivins of 247Sports had Burgess 4th after the first day, where the guys went through some quarterback-specific drills, while Charles Power of On3 Sports didn’t even have him amongst the top eleven. The official rankings from the Elite11 staff had him in 11th, though, meaning he was on radar as he entered an important Day 2.
Day 2, the Pro Day, was where Burgess really impressed. According to Power, he completed 18 of his 20 passes, the best mark of any quarterback who participated in the drill. This performance immediately vaulted him up the board for a lot of the analysts, including Power, who had him as the second-best quarterback on Day 2. Ivins ranked him 3rd for the day, while Adam Gorney of Rivals, who ranked him 7th after the first day, ranked him 10th for his performance on the second day. As for the Elite11 staff, they jumped him up to 6th after Day 2, putting him in a nice position to secure himself amongst the final eleven when it was all said and done.
Day 3 was the 7-on-7 portion of the event and is what really determines who will be named a part of the prestigious Elite11 each year. There were conflicting reports about the number of touchdowns thrown by Burgess in his 21 passes, but according to Power, he completed 13 of his throws for three touchdowns (Tom Loy of 247Sports had him with four touchdowns). Regardless, Burgess did enough to earn a spot as one of the Elite11 quarterbacks, as he found out earlier this afternoon.
Burgess, who is currently a 3✮ prospect, could be seeing a rating jump and new interests as he gets ready to start his senior season at Grayson High School down in Loganville, GA. It’ll be up to Bill Belichick and his staff to do everything that they can to hold on to his commitment and get him signed in December as they look to keep this quarterback room a strength.
