The portal defections just keep on rolling in tonight for the Tar Heels.
As he announced via social media on Thursday night, redshirt freshman Jani Norwood will enter his name into the transfer portal when the portal opens in January. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Norwood, a former 3✮ recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, is leaving Chapel Hill after two seasons. In those two years, he played in just four games, with his most extensive action coming in last year’s Fenway Bowl against UConn, which he started at right tackle. In that game against the Huskies, he played 36 snaps, but would play just one snaps this season in the game against Richmond.
His departure is not a surprise considering how many other offensive tackles got the opportunity to play over him this season. Even though the offensive line is expected to lose six players who started games this season due to graduation, the team will return guys like Miles McVay, Jordan Hall and Eidan Buchanan, all of whom made starts for the team at tackle this season. The team added J.B. Shabazz and Nick Fiumara on Wednesday from the high school ranks and it wouldn’t be shocking if the team went to the portal to find a little bit of experience to mix with the young potential here.
