The Tar Heels are still actively looking to add to the roster for next season, as the program doesn’t expect Drake Powell to withdraw from the NBA Draft, and they’ve effectively moved off from Ven-Allen Lubin, who surprisingly entered the transfer portal a little over three weeks ago. That search went international, as UNC has expressed interest in two foreign prospects, and many people thought that would be how they added to the roster for next season. But according to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, Carolina has contacted Texas Tech transfer Devsn Cambridge, who was awarded a seventh year of eligibility from the NCAA earlier today.

Cambridge played at Texas Tech the last two seasons, but injuries limited him to just 8 games two years ago, and 6 games this past season. Prior towards landing in Lubbock, Cambridge played at both Auburn and Arizona State, with a combined 68 starts in between those two stops. In his career, Cambridge has played in 141 games, making 78 starts, averaging 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists. He’s a career 44% shooter from the field and a 29% shooter from behind the arc.

At 6-6, 215 pounds, Cambridge would fill a void on the wing that currently exists on the roster, and would be more of a defensive stopper, as his highest scoring season came in his first season with Texas Tech, averaging over 10 points, but that spanned only 8 games. Now that he’s fully healthy, though, he’d be a great addition, given his physical prowess, in addition to his experience.

Cambridge has already heard from a handful of schools, including Pittsburgh, which he’ll visit next Wednesday. In addition to hearing from UNC and Pittsburgh, Arizona, Arizona State, Ohio State, Pepperdine, and Seton Hall have all reached out to him.
