Heel Tough Blog: UNC Offers Top In-State Prospect

July figures to be a hectic month of recruiting for Hubert Davis and his staff, with multiple high-level AAU events in the coming weeks. Davis has already landed numerous five-star prospects in the 2023 class, even though there is some uncertainty about how long Gregory “GG” Jackson will remain a UNC commit. With that in mind, Hubert Davis also has to get a start on the 2024 class, and he did so yesterday, by offering four-star prospect Drake Powell. Powell is a local North Carolina product, as he hails from Pittsboro, North Carolina, not too far from the UNC campus. He’s currently ranked as the No. 76 player in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports, while being the No. 24 small forward, and the No. 6 player from the Tar Heel state. Powell joins Jarin Stevenson, as players from the state of North Carolina, to be offered by UNC, as Davis is determined to start keeping the top in-state talent home.

Powell has already been offered by the likes of Florida State, Cincinnati, Miami, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Wake Forest, NC State, and others. While there is a long way to go in this recruitment, you’d have to imagine getting offered the flagship school, has to give UNC an early edge in his college decision.
