For a third straight day, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment in the 2027 class, making them one of the hottest teams on the trail right now.

On Wednesday morning, it was 2027 3✮ LB Aaron Williams who revealed to Inside Carolina that he was committing to the Tar Heels. He chooses the Tar Heels over offers from Mississippi State, Utah and Colorado amongst others. His commitment comes after he officially visited Chapel Hill this past weekend and told Inside Carolina that it had vaulted the team into first place in the race for him. Meanwhile, he had already secretly committed to the staff over the weekend after a very strong showing by the Tar Heel staff in what was just his second visit to campus.

Williams, the No. 520 overall prospect and No. 46 linebacker in the 2027 class according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, is in the midst of preparing for his senior season at Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, TX. Last year, as a junior, he racked up 56 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and three pass breakups for a Ridge Point team that finished 11-1 on the season despite an early 6A playoff exit.

Williams, who measures in at 6’2, 195 lbs., is the most exciting addition at the linebacker position in this class. He has really good speed for a linebacker, which allows him to play sideline-to-sideline and plays aggressive downhill when he needs to make plays at or near the line of scrimmage. His coverage skills are strong and he does a good job of making plays on the football when he needs to. He is a secure tackler, who does a good job of tackling low and he likes to hit hard when he gets the opportunity to. This is a nice addition to the Tar Heel linebacking corps that has a chance to grow into a key piece in the next few years.

With his commitment, the Tar Heels are now up to ten commits in the 2027 class, including three at the linebacker spot. The class jumps to No. 55 overall and No. 15 in the ACC.
