Official visits are set to resume for the 2027 class at the end of month, as the Tar Heels look to convince some important targets that they should be a part of what will be a smaller class this year for the program after the massive class the group brought in last cycle. To get you prepared, we’re taking a look at the prospects that have scheduled official visits with the program by position groups and updating you on where their recruitments are at. We’ll start with the four quarterbacks that are expected to visit campus over the course of the four weeks that the team will be hosting official visitors this summer.
3✮ QB Dre’Mail Carothers- Owensboro Catholic (Owensboro, KY): May 29th

Carothers will be a part of the first group of players on campus this summer and is someone whose recruitment feels like a toss up right now. The in-state schools are the ones with the best chance according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, but it feels like there is opportunity here if the Tar Heels want it with one of the quarterbacks that is trending up in this class. The staff will have to impress, though, if they want to outlast Louisville and Kentucky who have the advantage of later visits.
3✮ QB Cooper Newman- Sevier County (Sevierville, TN): June 12th

Newman is the quarterback that it feels like the staff has been pushing the hardest for in recent months and that push will continue on June 12th when he makes his return to Chapel Hill. It feels like the Tar Heels are in a pretty good spot here, as are Georgia Tech and Maryland, meaning they will still need to really impress him when he’s on campus. The Tar Heels won’t get the final say here, but as long as Georgia Tech doesn’t absolutely blow him away the prior week, it feels like they have a legitimate shot to land him.
3✮ QB Champ Smith- Cocoa (Miami, FL): May 29th [COMMITTED TO HARVARD]

Smith might be committed to Harvard, but that doesn’t mean that he has backed off his official visit schedule. Prior to his commitment back in April, the Tar Heels were considered the favorite for his services, meaning there is opportunity here for them when he arrives on campus at the end of this month. If the staff identifies him as the quarterback they want and turns the heat up on him, they might walk away from the weekend with the flip.
UR QB Noah Spinks- Summer Creek (Houston, TX): June 5th

Spinks might be unranked, but he is viewed in high regard by the Tar Heel staff. General manager Michael Lombardi made a trip to Houston earlier this week for an in-home visit with him, showing just how much they value him. Right now, this looks to be a battle between the Tar Heels and Utah, the team that will get the first crack at him the week prior to his visit to Chapel Hill. The staff feels like they are positioned well if they want to pounce here.
