Official visits are set to resume for the 2027 class at the end of month, as the Tar Heels look to convince some important targets that they should be a part of what will be a smaller class this year for the program after the massive class the group brought in last cycle. To get you prepared, we’re taking a look at the prospects that have scheduled official visits with the program by position groups and updating you on where their recruitments stand heading into the month. Today, we’ll look at the five running backs who are scheduled to be on campus this summer, including one commit.
4✮ RB Aiden Gibson- Woodruff (Woodruff, SC): June 19th

The official visits may not matter for Gibson, who is set to commit tomorrow at a ceremony at his high school. The Tar Heels are one of the hats that will be on the table, but the predictions from the recruiting experts are pointing in the direction of Penn State. Barring something unforeseen, he will likely cancel his official visit to Chapel Hill after he makes his decision.
4✮ RB Elijah Kimble- Canisius (Buffalo, NY): June 12th

Kimble is a highly-ranked back that comes into this month of official visits with what appears to be a pretty wide open race between the four teams that are scheduled to host him. The Tar Heels are competing with the national champs, Indiana, and the national runner-up, Miami, and Washington, but it is a good sign that they have been able to hold on to this official visit. It feels like the staff has their work cut out for them, but it is not completely off the table.
4✮ RB Tranard Roberts- Villages Charter School (Williston, FL): June 12th

The Tar Heels just jumped into the running Roberts last week and immediately was added to his official visit schedule. Florida has been seen as the favorite for a while and still appears to hold that title, but the fact that Roberts is willing to visit UNC and Michigan means the door is still open. The staff has to feel good about where they sit, but they are likely going to have to pull out all of the stops to beat out the Gators.
3✮ RB Isaiah Stephens- Sheridan (Sheridan, AR): June 5th [COMMITTED TO UNC]

Stephens committed to the Tar Heels back on March 28th and looks as if he is pretty locked in at this point. Purdue was the other school that he was supposed to visit, but it feels unlikely at this point that he will make that visit. This will be a nice asset to have on campus during that weekend to help recruit some other big names.
3✮ RB Mason Ball- Jacksonville (Jacksonville, AR): June 19th

Ball was a guy that the Tar Heels were once positioned well for, but that no longer appears to be the case. Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for him to land with the Kentucky Wildcats last week, making them the favorites to land him heading into the month. Even getting Ball to campus would be an accomplishment with where this recruitment sits right now.
