Last week, during Michael Malone’s biggest day in the transfer portal, UNC landed FAU transfer Maxim Logue, a big man who had more potential than his stats would suggest he had. Fast forward over a week later, and Logue is no longer expected to enroll at UNC, according to Inside Carolina. In their latest intel report earlier in the week, Inside Carolina reported there were some issues getting Logue enrolled into UNC from an academic perspective, and you have to imagine that after playing at Oregon State and FAU, there was an issue with his transcript being accepted at UNC.
Logue averaged 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds last season for the Owls, so on the surface, this isn’t a big loss. But when you factor in that Michael Malone is tasked with replacing both Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar, and with most of the top bigs in the transfer portal already scooped up, every big available matters. After adding Sayon Keita, an overseas center, yesterday, UNC missed out on his teammate, Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje, who committed to Duke instead of joining his teammate in Chapel Hill.
Malone and the staff’s attention is focused on Mouhamed Faye, another international big man, who plays for Paris Basketball, as they now have three roster spots available to fill for the upcoming season.
