Michael Malone may be back stateside, but his search to find frontcourt help for 2026-27 continues to take him overseas, as another target has emerged, according to sources close to the UNC program. Those sources indicate that Alexandros Samodurov is the latest international prospect to draw interest from the Tar Heels, after playing for Panathinaikos professionally in Greece. His numbers aren;t going to catch anyone’s eyes, as he averaged just 3.4 points, and 1.6 rebounds per contest, while playing just under 10 minutes per game, across competition in a domestic Greek league, as well as EuroLeague Samodurov is 6-11, and weighs just over 200 pounds, but is fleet a foot, and despite being a big man, moves with with and without the basketball. Last summer, while competing in the U20 Euro Championships, Samodurov averaged 17.6 points and 5.7 rebounds, while earning All-Tournament honors.
The connection that led the UNC staff to Samodurov is current Tar Heel Neokilis Avdalas, who committed to North Carolina after transferring out of Virginia Tech, after just one season in Blacksburg. Avdalas and Samodurov were both teammates while playing for Panathinaikos.
