The transfer portal for college basketball is set to open on Tuesday and the first name that will be entering from a Tar Heel perspective has been revealed.
As he announced via his social media on Sunday night, true freshman guard Isaiah Denis will be entering his name into the transfer portal. Denis did say that he is leaving the door open to a return to Chapel Hill, though, meaning if the new coach wants him back, he will at least consider it.
Denis, the No. 75 overall prospect in the 2025 and No. 11 point guard according to Rivals Composite, enters the portal after one quiet season with the program. He played in just 10 of the team’s 33 games, totaling just 33 minutes in those ten games. He finished the season averaging 1.9 points per game, 0.6 rebounds per game and 0.1 assists while shooting 50% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.
Many Tar Heel fans begged to see more of him throughout the season, but it never materialized. It will be interesting to see who the new staff values from this year’s roster and wants back for next season. Because of how long the new hire is taking, don’t be surprised if you see a lot of others from this year’s roster do something similar to keep their options open.
