After accepting a position on Michael Malone first Tar Heel staff earlier in the week, former Providence head coach Kim English will no longer be accepting that position.

As first reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN, he told UNC officials on Sunday that he was not going to pursue the assistant position on the staff that he was offered earlier in the week. According to Inside Carolina, English had arrived on campus and started working for the staff on Wednesday. There is no indication as to what exactly led to English’s decision at this time.

English was the second external addition to the staff this offseason joining assistant Chuck Martin, who came over from Arkansas back on April 9th. Malone has also retained Sean May, Pat Sullivan and director of operations Eric Hoots from the previous staff.

With English’s decision, there is at least one assistant spot that Malone will be looking to fill here in the near future. As of right now, there are no other names that the team has been tied to, but you can imagine that there is work being done to quickly find another experienced option that can help Malone in his first season back at the college level in 25 years.
