When the Tar Heels landed Montenegro’s Luka Bogovac earlier this off-season, UNC was aware that there would be hurdles they’d have to climb to get him to Chapel Hill, ahead of the 2025-26 season. Per Inside Carolina and On3 Sports, Bogavac has cleared that latest hurdle, which was being awarded his student visa, and is expected to be on the UNC campus next week, ahead of the first day of classes for the fall semester, which begins on August 18th. He cleared UNC admissions back in July and had his interview with the US Embassy last week, paving the way for him to be awarded his student visa. All he needs now is NCAA clearance to be deemed eligible for the upcoming season, but with all these hurdles already behind him, the expectation is that he’ll be a full go when they open practice next month.
Bogavac is coming off his best season in the ABA, where he averaged nearly 15 points per game, with over 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, while shooting over 45% from the field, and 39% from behind the arc. Bogavac has experience playing against a team at the NCAA level, as he scored 21 points in a scrimmage against the USC Trojans in 2023. With a strong close to the ABA season, the expectation is for Bogavac to be Carolina’s top scorer on the perimeter and provide the floor balance and outside shooting that was missed last season.
