Over the past few days, the Tar Heels have been losing members of the roster to the transfer portal, but on Tuesday afternoon the team got the news that one member of this year’s team will be staying with the program under new head coach Michael Malone.
As first reported by Noah Weiskopf of TarHeel247, junior guard Luka Bogavac tells the site that he will be returning for his final season of eligibility.
Bogavac will return after an inconsistent first season in Chapel Hill. He played in all 33 games for the team, averaging 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 40% from the field and 35% from 3-point range in 24.3 minutes per game.
Bogavac is the first player from this year’s roster to announce his intentions to return under new head coach Michael Malone. When Malone joined the ‘Carolina Insider Podcast’ back in the fall, he was complimentary of Bogavac and it would not be a shock if he looks at him as a piece that he can work with this upcoming season.
Outside of Bogavac, seven other members of the roster have announced their decisions, all announcing that they will be entering the transfer portal with some leaving their options open to return.
