Heel Tough Blog: Official Visit Weekend Preview- May 29th

Today is arrival day for the first group of official visitors in the 2027 class that will be on campus this summer. With that, we’re here to prepare you for the weekend with a look at where the Tar Heels stand with each guy who will be on campus.

Committed

3 S Chuck Roberts- IMG Academy (Mission Hills, CA): May 29th [COMMITTED TO UNC]

Roberts committed to the Tar Heels back in December and remains firmly committed to the team. He does not have any official visits scheduled elsewhere, meaning the Tar Heels can focus on other prospects during this first weekend of official visits.

In the Lead

3 IOL Joao Sadjo- St. Thomas More (Oakdale, CT)

Sadjo announced on Monday that he will officially visit Chapel Hill later this summer following his recent offer. As of right now, the Tar Heels are the only school that has a public official visit scheduled with him. Unless Georgia is to get more involved here, it feels like the Tar Heels are in the best shape to land him.

3 IOL Sincere Wilkerson- Edgewater (Orlando, FL)

Wilkerson will enter this month with the Tar Heels in control of this recruitment. Even though they only have a slight lead for his services according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, UNC is the only school that has an official visit scheduled with him at this time. Missouri is a recent offer that could pop up with an official visit at some point, but it feels like the Tar Heels have this race won if they are willing to take his commitment.

UR IOL Nori White- Hough (Cornelius, NC)

White is another member of the Hough offensive line who holds the Tar Heels in high regard entering his official visits. They took over as the leaders in his recruitment immediately upon offering back in April and, as of right now, it is the only program that he has an official visit set with at this point. This is another recruit where the Tar Heels will likely have the say as to whether or not they are willing to take his commitment.

Toss Ups

3 EDGE Andrew Rogers- Grimsley (Greensboro, NC)

The Tar Heels recently re-entered the race for Rogers and they have to feel pretty good about where they stand. The Tar Heels are one of four who will receive an official visit in the next month, joining James Madison (June 5th), Clemson (June 12th) and East Carolina (June 18th). The Tar Heels seem to be in a good position where they can capitalize if they make a strong enough push during their official visit and Clemson holds off on offering. A good enough showing might be enough to land him regardless.

3 LB Zykee Scott- La Salle College (Philadelphia, PA)

Scott enters the month with a three-team battle for his services. The Tar Heels will be the first team to make a pitch to him, meaning they have the opportunity to set the pace for this month. Holding off Georgia Tech (June 5th) and Colorado (June 12th) won’t be easy, though, so this staff needs to show him that he is a priority.

3 DL Amir Moore- Harrells Christian Academy (Harrells, NC)

Moore is one of the few in-state targets that will be taking an official visit and like Lee, this is a three-team race that provides plenty of opportunity for the Tar Heels. Once again, the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine favors both Florida (June 4th) and NC State (June 12th), but it seems like he is pretty open-minded going into the month. This feels like one that the Tar Heels need to secure so it will be up to the staff to impress.

3OT Hudson Ingalsbe- White Plains (Anniston, AL)

Ingalsbe is an under-the-radar name that added his name to the list of official visitors for this weekend and is one whose recruitment looks to be wide open. The Tar Heels as of right now are the only official visit that has publicly scheduled, but 247Sports does appear to have an article up that expects him to take one to Virginia at some point. Because of how cloudy things are, it’s hard to have the Tar Heels as the favorite heading into the weekend, but have to be feeling pretty decent about where they are with him on campus.

3 QB Dre’Mail Carothers- Owensboro Catholic (Owensboro, KY)

Carothers will be a part of the first group of players on campus this summer and is someone whose recruitment feels like a toss-up right now. The Tar Heels are one of the two that seem to be pacing the way, along with Louisville, but you can’t count out South Florida, who has recently landed on his official visit schedule. Still, it feels like this will ultimately come down to the Tar Heels and Cardinals and it’s up to the staff to separate themselves this weekend.

3 IOL Neal Roberts- South Gwinnett (Snellville, GA)

Roberts recruitment has drastically changed in the past week and is now one that fits into the toss up category. The Tar Heels will get the first shot for him followed by trips to Georgia State (June 5th), Appalachian State (June 12th) and South Florida (June 19th). The Bulls held the advantage as of last week, but it feels like the Tar Heels are positioned well to land him if they are willing to take his commitment over other interior offensive line targets.

3IOL Lauifi Tosi- Millennium (Goodyear, AZ)

Tosi was a last-minute addition to this week's docket, but is a guy that the Tar Heels feel as if they are officially in the mix for. This seems to be a pretty even four-team race right now entering official visits, as he’ll also make stops with Sacramento State (June 5th), Idaho (June 11th) and Stanford (June 19th) this month. The Tar Heels might be at a slight disadvantage because of distance, but that feels like something that can be overcome if the Tar Heels want to.

UR CB Jyden German- Bishop Verot (Fort Myers, FL)

The Tar Heels may have jumped in late on Jyden German, but they are now squarely in the mix to land his commitment. Louisville (June 5th), Minnesota (June 12th) and UCF (June 19th) are all pushing hard for him, as well, with the Cardinals holding a slight edge according to Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. Minnesota is also said to be in strong standing following a visit back in the spring where he had rave reviews of the program. It’s up to the staff to make sure they stand out this weekend and take over that lead if they are going to land him.

UR DL Demetrius Terrell- Parker (Birmingham, AL)

Terrell was a late addition to this weekend’s group, but is someone that the Tar Heels probably stand a good chance with. Georgia Tech is the only other school with an official visit scheduled with him at this point, meaning this looks to be a two-team battle for right now. The question is, how much effort will the Tar Heels be putting in to stand out with bigger targets at this position rolling through during the next month.

Probably Heading Elsewhere

4WR Amare Patterson- Bluffton (Ridgeland, SC)

The Tar Heels just offered Patterson earlier this week and did a good job to get themselves on the itinerary for him. While they are on the schedule, it doesn’t mean they are in the thick of things here, though. The Tar Heels are going to need to absolutely blow his mind to take over what is a pretty firm lead for Florida in this recruitment.

3DL Elijah Guertin- Bishop Hendricken (Warwick,  RI)

Guertin was another late addition to this weekend’s official visit schedule and is someone that the Tar Heels have a lot of work to do with. Despite a visit back in April that led to an offer, they don’t seem to be in nearly the same stratosphere as Penn State and Florida, who look to lead the way. Barring a huge shift following this visit, he will likely be headed elsewhere.
