Heel Tough Blog: Seth Trimble Withdraws Name from Portal, Returning to UNC

Jim Dedmon- USA Today Sports

The Tar Heels have yet to make a big splash in the transfer portal so far this offseason, raising concerns from the fanbase about the strategy that Hubert Davis and the staff is taking in that area. We found out earlier this afternoon, however, that the staff have been working behind the scenes to bring back one of their own, a task which has now officially been accomplished.

As first reported by Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, junior guard Seth Trimble, who entered his name into the transfer portal back on April 13th, will be withdrawing his name and returning to Chapel Hill for his junior season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Trimble spent this season as the Tar Heels primary option off the bench after holding a solid rotational role as a freshman. He averaged 9.8 minutes per game in the 32 that he played in a year ago and that number nearly doubled this year when he averaged 17.1 minutes per game in 35 games played. He averaged 5.2 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game this year after quickly growing into the most trusted player off the bench for the team early in the season. He shot the ball well in all aspects, hitting 47.0% of his shots overall, 41.9% from three and 66.7% at the foul line, but lacked confidence to shoot the ball at times, especially from the outside. Hopefully that is an area that he will be able to take a step in this year.

Regardless of if he can take that step on the offensive end, the team will now be returning their best defender and their most valuable bench member. This is a huge boost for the team in both of those areas and can hopefully be the start of a stretch of positive for the team in the transfer portal.
