The Tar Heels hired new defensive coordinator Geoff Collins on Friday and now, just two days later, were hoping that they would be bringing in a new member of the defensive front for him. Unfortunately, they will have to look elsewhere for help in that room after their biggest target in that room committed elsewhere.
Louisville defensive tackle transfer Jeff Clark announced his commitment to Arizona State on Sunday afternoon via social media. That decision came a day after Clark concluded his visit to Chapel Hill, which he called “amazing” in his social media post last night. In the end it wasn’t enough to overcome what the Sun Devils presented to him last year when he visited there before transferring to Louisville.
The good news for the Tar Heels is that the defensive tackle spot is in pretty good shape. The only departures so far are Myles Murphy (NFL Draft) and Kedrick Bingley-Jones (transfer), so the unit will still have a solid group heading into fall camp. This is a position room that could use some new blood, though, so the staff should continue to look and see if there is someone that fits what new defensive line coach Ted Monachino wants to do up front.
