2025 was supposed to be a big season for Travis Burgess, the Tar Heels’ 2026 quarterback commit, but that season has been cut short.

According to a post from Burgess on social media, he is done for the season after suffering an injury. Sources are saying that it is an ACL injury that he suffered on Friday night in the game against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee.

With the injury, Burgess will finish the season 16 of 31 for 329 yards and three touchdowns in two games. Last year, his first as a full time starter, Burgess threw for 2,255 yards and posted a 23-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio on 60.2% completions, while also running for 596 yards and four touchdowns on just 58 carries.

Burgess ranks as the No. 197 overall prospect and the No. 14 quarterback in the 2026 class according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings after a big summer that included him being named as one of the Elite11 quarterbacks.
