The Tar Heels' quarterback room is undergoing an overhaul and the team has just landed its newest member in the form of a Bobby Petrino recruit at Texas A&M.

As first reported by Inside Carolina, Texas A&M transfer quarterback Miles O’Neill has committed to the Tar Heels following a trip to Chapel Hill on Monday. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

O’Neill, 6’5, 225 lbs., spent the last two seasons in College Station with the Aggies and saw action in eight games. In those eight games, he threw for 171 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 12 of 20 passing and ran for nine yards on seven rush attempts. Prior to the college level. He was a high-end 4✮ prospect in the 2024 recruiting class who completed 72.1% of her passes and threw for 2,151 yards and posted a 20-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio in his senior season at the Hun School in Princeton, NJ. The prior year, as a junior at Marblehead High School in Marblehead, MA, he completed 72.3% of his passes for 2,181 yards, 23 touchdowns and four interceptions.

This is a promising addition to the quarterback room and one that should be able to challenge for the starting job. He may not have accomplished much at Texas A&M, but being reunited with Bobby Petrino might be the perfect recipe for him to succeed at this level, and his ceiling appears to be quite high based on his recruiting rankings. This is a really nice addition for the Tar Heels, something we haven’t been able to say much so far during this portal cycle.
