For the third time today, the Tar Heels have added a commitment in the portal and this time it comes in the form of a transfer receiver.

As first reported by Inside Carolina, Louisiana-Monroe wide receiver Jonathan Bibbs has announced his commitment to the Tar Heels in the midst of his visit to Chapel Hill, which started yesterday. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Bibbs, 6’2, 175 lbs., spent the last two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe, playing 347 snaps across 16 career games. After registering just one catch for 65 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman, Bibbs caught 26 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns on 40 targets this season. The area that he shines the most is after the catch, as he averaged 12.4 yards after the catch per reception, which was seventh in all of FBS football amongst players who were targeted 30 or more times this season.

Bibbs might not be a guy whose numbers blow you away, but the Tar Heels are in need of bodies and speed in this room and he checks both of those boxes. The ability after the catch is something that the Tar Heels sorely missed from their wide receiver group this season and the hope is that he will be able to do similar things with the football in his hands this year at the Power 4 level. This feels like a worthwhile investment that could pay off big time for the Tar Heels this season and beyond.
