Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Land Florida Transfer Long Snapper

After landing a big commitment earlier in the day from what might just be their starting left tackle, the Tar Heels picked up a commitment from one of the best available long snappers in the portal on Tuesday.

According to a report from Graham Hall, Florida Gators beat writer for 247Sports, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from Florida transfer long snapper Gannon Burt. Burt will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Burt spent the past two seasons in Gainesville, playing important snaps against both Tennessee and Kentucky. Burt snapped the ball 15 times this past season, with 13 of those snaps coming in the Kentucky game. The bulk of snaps came on field goals, but he also snapped on punts during that game against Kentucky.

Burt will likely be the backup long snapper with Spencer Triplett still in place, taking the spot left behind by Grant Mills. Considering this staff wants everyone to earn their jobs, they may let him compete with Triplett, but he’ll have to grade out much better than he did in those limited snaps last season.
